складометр warehouse meter Explanation: A wild guess. The idea is the amount of space the wood takes up in a warehouse. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 30 mins (2005-11-08 14:07:06 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- But I don't think, in answer to your question, that this terminology is common. According to google it isn't very common in Russian either. |

Suggestion Explanation: Not all words have an equivalent in another language. Here (USA)we buy fireplace wood by the "cord" (128 cubic feet), which as far as I know is used only in North America and, rarely I believe, in Great Britain. Therefore I suggest you use skladometer and then define it in parentheses:(1 skladometer = 0.7 cubic meter) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2005-11-08 14:38:48 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The aforementioned has been common practice in \"translating\" old Russian measures: \"pood\" ( = 16.38 kg), sazhen (sagene) ( = 2.123 meters), etc. |
