'Notch pered Rozhdestvom': dit
is de titel van een stuk uit mijn thesis over invoering van de euro. Onder deze titel staat 'ne po gogolyu'. Ik weet dat Gogol een boek heetf geschreven met de titel 'Notch' pered Rozhdestvom'. Nu wil mijn prof weten (voor een voetnoot)
waarom in mijn thesis de titel 'Notch' pered Rozhdestvom' wordt gebruikt.
Voor zover ik weet, is de euro ingevoerd op Nieuwjaars-avond, en niet op Kerstavond. Of heeft men juist om deze reden deze titel uitgekozen?

It is the night when miracles happen, you know it very well.
In Gogol's times the New Year was hardly celebrated in Europe, and Dec.31st was more or less an ordinary evening.

I think your author means expectations and hopes before the introduction of Euro.
Just an interpretation.

Explanation:
Orthodox Church uses Julian calendar. It differs from our calendar (Gregorian) - diffrence is 14 days.They celebrate Christmas on the 1st January and New Year on the 14th January.
