Russian to English translations [PRO] Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs / birth certificate
Russian term or phrase:национальность
In my daughter's certificate issued in three languages it was translated as "nationality (ethnic)". Can this work?
So far as translating from Russian, we shall be governed by RF laws and may not refer to any "English speaking world" or laws thereof. In such case, a translator shall follow a source concept and do his/her best as regards to translation.
In the English speaking world, "nationality" means citizenship or country of birth. If I told anybody here that my "nationality" was "Jew", hardly anybody (except Russian immigrants) would understand me.
