agree  Vladimir Dubisskiy: Kropotkin says "village middle-class people". I'm not sure there were still 'free-run' :-) middle-class villagers in 1921 in the USSR. YES they existed prob. until 1927-1929...

  -> Thanks, Sergey. Yeah, I tried too. I still feel some conflict between "Russian peasants" and "middle class" but I guess "m.c.peasants" is a concept different from "middle class"
