This has been another difficult choice, thanks to all of your fantastic suggestions! My ultimate decision came down to how the term "flowed" in my final sentence.
Michael & Leigh: I haven't heard these expression used lately, so thanks for reminding me of some great idioms! However, I felt uncomfortable bypassing the "science" aspect completely.
Mark: I totally agree with your reasoning.
However: *the infant swam/floated by the book* sounds off to me, if only elementally (I end up picturing a soggy book).
*swam according to the theory* is the most concise answer, while still remaining conversational (a tad less formal than *as science predicted*) |
