From what Sergei writes about the film, that fighting has already begun, I think you need something more active/specific than "deployment," which can mean that a ship is cruising around in the waters of its assigned location, waiting to see if anything is going to happen. "Stood up" and "acted" leave it unclear as to what they did--maybe we don't know. (?) I think "set out" is excluded by the additional context Sergei provided--clearly they have already left port/base.
