Asker: THanks Ravindra...I think it has to be a french term though. I think I've found it: grand jete. Thank you!

grand jetes

Explanation:
Sarah, I'm not a ballerina, so I'm just guessing, but this looks quite plausible. I'm thinking that whatever it is, it contains the word "grand" (for bol'shiye), so that may help you a bit. By the way, I believe the second "e" in jete has an accent over it.

A Google search for ballet terms glossary OR dictionary netted quite a few sources that may help you. Here are a couple:

www.abt.org/education/dictionary/index.html (American Ballet Theater dictionary)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_ballet_terms (Wikipedia glossary)

Also, here's are two examples where your term and grand jete seem to be equated:

http://www.rambler.ru/srch?oe=1251&words=grand jete&hilite=6...

http://www.rambler.ru/srch?oe=1251&words=grand jete &hilit...

Hope that helps a bit.

Sorry, I was forgetting my 25-year-old French grammar, if it's plural there should be an S on both adjective and noun: grands jetes.
