i don't know which way you translate but i can explain the origin of the term sam means "by yourself" por si mismo and ogon means "fire" fuego and so "boil" , hervir,arder,
hope you speak english
i guess evey country has a term to describe this hot stuff

Samogón es vodka destilado en casa, el propietario "sam gonit" lo destila él mismo, por la forma más corta de decirlo sería "aguardiente" o "aguardiente casero" o bien "vodka casero" si se trata de Rusia

El «Camogon»ruso tiene dos variantes: es tanto el vodka no rectificado o poco elaborado, como el vodka producido en casa, con un cierto matiz de ilegalidad (lo tenía al menos durante la ley seca que impuso Gorbachov)
Yo, al español, lo traduciría, según el contexto como "aguardiante casero" o "aguardiante no rectificado"
