Postoje pojmovi iz kulture ili tradicije koji su "neprevodivi" i koji u sebi nose odlike te kulture i tradicije svojstvene zemlji iz koje potiču. Mislim da je jedan od takvih pojmova i "čarda" i ne postoji ništa u drugim jezicima što bi moglo da odslika baš to. Na kraju krajeva, i mi u srpskom ga nismo preveli nego usvojili mađarski naziv.

Sličan pojam je i "kafana". Šta u engleskom može da dočara mesto gde se jelo, pilo, tugovalo, provodio ceo dan, osnivale političke partije, pisale pesme... (govorim u prošlom vremenu jer ih je sve manje)?
To nije restaurant, inn, tavern nego kafana:-)

Dodaću još nešto... Na fakultetu sam imala profesorku, Engleskinju iz Mančestera. Ona je npr. pominjala naš pojam Slava i govorila nam da ga ne prevodimo, da ostavimo Slava jer je to pojam iz srpske tradicije, a da dodamo opisno da je to slavljenje svetaca uz jelo, piće, druženje...

Asker: eh.. na to sam i ja naisla ali nisam htela da spominjem tavern jer me to slabo asocira na fish stew iako je "tavern- a place of business where people gather to drink alcoholic beverages and, more than likely, also be served food" :D + Carda mora biti nesto recno :)

Asker: Provodim dane dodajuci s posle c da bih pronasla 'correct spelling' za razne reci i imena ali ovde mi nije palo na pamet. Na stranu to sto me je prica o persijskoj reci odvela u totalni corsokak :D HVALA PUNO!
