It's almost 2 AM and I'm getting tired. If someone could help with a term for “recorra visualmente”, which I can also put between inverted commas, I'd be appreciate it.

I don't think there's actually any need to put it in inverted commas either in Spanish or in English, but it wouldn't do any harm. The inverted commas may have been used for emphasis rather than to mark the term as jargon. Anyway, I'd say "visual check" is one standard way of saying this:

"If it is dark when you leave, conduct a visual check of the parking lot before going to your vehicle."
