Hasta aquí no hay sorpresas. Donde acaba de surgir una variante interesante en el mapa político nacional es en Pando. Ahí está radicado el mayor traspié electoral del Gobierno.

I suppose it just means where the government has lost its largest share of support, but I'd be interested in hearing people's ideas for a translation. TIA!

Informality. Though both 'misstep' and 'blunder' are less than formal, 'stumble' and 'tripped-up' would be even more colloquial, in case the context actually calls for this (news article, editorial, etc.). Since we have no context provided on the writer, audience, source & target countries, etc., many options are open for the source expression.

To me, the term "traspié" places the emphasis on some misguded action of the Government's representatives that resulte in the loss of support. Hence my suggestion.

"Blunder" might work better (it is stronger than "misstep"), depending on what actually happened. Not a US/UK difference, as far as I know. I myself am as American as apple pie.... Thanks, Ed. :)
