Chris, I have seen it way too often, and the use of "Directorate General" within the EU is common. Its general usage within the UN is the opposite. I am not saying it is not sometimes used. Both the EC and UN have their own Style Guides and, IMO, the UN's is more reliable and more consistent.

agree  AllegroTrans: OK, but Directorate General (since its boss is a Director General) // https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directorate-General + term used in countless countries + UN has a subsidiary called the D-G of Generation and Transmission of Electricity, among others
