Un lance es un suceso o episodio, y aplicado el término a lo comercial significa que se vende barato lo que se ofrece, que se lanza en plan de oferta, porque es género de saldo o de segunda mano. De ahí las librerías de lance, dedicadas a libros usados, antiguos, y también a restos de ediciones que quedaron fuera del circuito de la moda o del reclamo imperioso de los títulos de éxito.
