Spanish term or phrase: ERROR DE TIPO
A long list of subject areas in a study plan for a law degree at a Spanish university.

TEMA IX: EL TIPO SUBJETIVO DEL DELITO DOLOSO DE COMISION. EL ERROR DE TIPO

No further contect, but a good explanation is given here:

All of which is very clear. So, seeing as I'm translating "DELITO DOLOSO" as "intentional crime", can I call "el error de tipo"= "Unintentional crime"? or is that too simplistic? Is there a specific term in English/US etc Law?

mistake concerning an element of the statutory offense definition
Explanation:
This may certainly be worded otherwise, but "error de tipo" is defined as an "error sobre un hecho constitutivo de la infracción penal".

In this context, "tipo" denotes "la descripción normativa de la conducta prohibida en las leyes penales", and can be rendered as "statutory offense definition", "statutory definition of a crime," and often as "offense definition element" or "definitional element/term of an offense"

Hope this helps.

-> Yes, thanks and, indeed, I assume it's generally known that "offence" with a "c" is the British spelling.
