Spanish term or phrase: reconocer un crédito a alguien
This is from some bankruptcy proceedings in Spain.

se solicita que se reconozca a la entidad bancaria un crédito por importe de €x.

de reconocerse algún crédito a la entidad actora

I see that the EU translates it as "to register a recovery claim" but I'm not sure if that applies here. Also, if that were the correct translation, I am having trouble fitting in the 'a'.

Could the first sentence be translated as something like "the bank wishes to register a recovery claim for €x"?

recognise a claim in favour of somebody
Explanation:

Hi,

The sentence could be translated as
"It is requested that a claim in the amount of € x be recognised in favour of the bank."

That's how insolvency proceedings work. You, being one of the creditors, file your claim against the debtor and it is either recognised by the insolvency administrator (provided that there are sufficient insolvency funds in the kitty from the liquidation of the insolvent's assets to settle your claim and the regulations under applicable law are fulfilled and you have filed the claim properly) or you are out of luck.

Cheers,
