Method of adjustment intended to prevent pay increases from being applied across the board irrespective of the previous level of pay. It means that the pay level existing prior to a pay increase remains unchanged if it is already above the level of that increase or, if it is lower, is increased only by as much as is essential to bring it up to the new level. This method of neutralizing pay increases is the general rule under Spanish law and therefore applies, in overall annual calculations, to the raising of the national minimum wage and also, in principle, to pay increments established in collective agreements and to discretionary pay supplements.


I think in your sentence I might just say "the method of adjustment" for these conditions.
