From Javier F. Becerra's Dictionary of Mexican Legal Terminology (Spanish - English) p. 647. "el pleito a prueba" would be "the lawsuit on trial." Don't know what country your text is from, though.

Recibir el pleito a prueba means to order the production of evidences, after which the Judge or Court is in a position to rule on the case.

The case having been admitted to trial - already in ProZ glossary

...as are other translations of a prueba, but this one 'fits all sizes'.

Evidence is 'admitted'. Cases or claims are 'entertained'.

Also, if it were about evidence, it would be called the discovery (of evidence and production of documents)stage in the UK.
