Not entirely sure about this, but the etymology of the Spanish word "cuenca" appears to be "concha".

Concha auriculae: depresión profunda que ocupa la parte central del pabellón auricular y cuyo fondo se continua directamente con el CAE. Sinónimo: fosa escafoides, cavum conchae, concha del pabellón auricular.
(F): Conque: fosse profonde de l'oreille externe.
(Ing): Concha, auricular concha, concha of auricle: the bowl area of the pinna (auricle) that channels sound from the environment to the ear canal.
