minimum strength, measured by a *tear test*;
minimum content of substances (such as calcium carbonate) that neutrali-ze acid action, measured by the alkali reserve;
maximum content of easily oxidized material, mea-sured by the kappa num-ber;
maximum and minimum pH values of a cold water ex-tract of the pa-per.
