Hola, me parece [sin haber visto el contexto completo, pero de mi experiencia previa] que el "de por medio" se refiere a que la calle de servicio se encuentra entre una cosa y la otra, probablemente uno de los límites de la parcela y el otro, paralelo más o menos al primero.

No pienso que se pueda decir ni que pasa "through the middle" ni "through the center" porque éstos serían posicionamientos que en mi opinión exceden la información espacial contenida en la versión española.
