This is actually pretty hard to say in English..especially when he throws in FAIR or CARNIVAL which were traditionally held outside the city walls, or, sometimes, next to the steps of the cathedral, and that was a public places...

I think plaza has to be taken in a general sense of place rather than a town square...I don't think vulgarity is particularly associated with town squares...maybe with market places ....

speech/(language) of the marketplace/(fair) are the closest that convey the menaning of the Russian original. It\'s not /(urban) slang in this particular context surely, \'street language\' could be applied for the US-audience, but I doubt if it\'s precise enough. It could be described as a mixture \"town & rustic speech\", but just seems to be too long.
