distribution of possession

Explanation:
"Desmarque" normally refers to losing your marker (opponent) so that you can receive the ball, personally I'm not familiar with "desmarque DE posesión". However from the description it's what we calling the 'holding mid-fielder' who plays behind the line of possession and distributes the ball (receives and then re-orientates the attack) in attack.

** it would be best written as "by distributing the possession"

run to lose your marker

Explanation:
I basically agree with Neil's explanation. In the translation, however, I think "desmarque de posesión" (which I have not heard before either, I have to say) refers to a step prior to ball distribution. I think it does refer to losing your marker, as Neil said, so this is how I would translate your text:
"The holding midfielder will emerge as the man responsible for giving continuity to attacking play, through runs to lose his marker, preferably behind the ball".
Distribution is one step further, as the text goes on to say. I hope this helps!

a través de desmarques de posesión
by shaking off tackling markers

Explanation:
Markers attempting dispossession is implied. But tacklers might put across the idea.

I see Veronica's point and am unsure about Neil's post-tackle distribution.

Note: it is 'a través de'.

NB my ProZ soccer critics: I was playing soccer inter alia as 'centre half' in a 5-3-2-formation and going to matches over half a century ago.

Example sentence(s):
  • realizó un buen desmarque -> he lost his marker well

neutral  Neil Ashby: I have said nothing about "post-tackle", please don't misquote me. The ST describes tactics/duties of the attacking team-no tackling involved! A marker by definition marks someone who doesn't have the ball, they can't be tackling at the same time.

  -> Excuse me. Maybe you meant distribution post-marker shake-off..
