Spanish term or phrase: forjas inglesas
A specific question about Atocha station in Madrid, related to a journalistic piece written around the time of the construction of the AVE line to Seville. What is the "carril de 288 m importado de las forjas inglesas"? The rails? From English forges? Why is only 288 m of interest or described as "de las forjas inglesas"? Does anyone know enough of the history of the station (c. 1991) to positively point to the supposed problem?

For translation to British English. Many thanks for your help.

English railway lines

I don't know much about the story of Atocha.. but for what I found, it's not that the railway line has only 288m, that is the length of each "piece" or part...

I would go for sth like:

the 288m long English railway lines are not useful anymore...

the 288m long railway lines imported from England ...

I hope that helps!
