Spanish term or phrase: gestión y gerencia

Cuando tengo que traducir el término "management" al español, normalmente lo traduzco como gerencia, algunas veces como "manejo", y recientemente busqué en google donde encontré que en la mayoría de las combinaciones el término "gestión" es más común:

Algunos ejemplos son los siguientes:

1. Gestión de la calidad
2. Gestión ambiental
3. Gestión de residuos (aunque prefiero "manejo de residuos").

Hablando en serio, en un trabajo que hice hace poco se aplicó "gestión" para lo relacionado con políticas o lineamientos generales, y "gerenciamiento" cuando se trataba de administración (en el sentido más concreto o cotidiano). De todos modos esto fue un proyecto, para un cliente, y otros adoptan otros criterios (por no mencionar que en un montón de casos nos quedábamos a dos aguas, y la decisión quedaba a intuición de cada uno...)

La traducción de "management" por "gestión" me parece muy adecuada. Otra posible opción (dependiendo del contexto) sería "administración". La opción "manejo"sólo la utilizaría para clientes americanos.

I don't translate Spanish so I can only explain usage in English.

*gestión* is "management." All of the examples you give above are specific areas of "management"

*gerencia* is like the French *gérance*.
It has more to do with overseeing all of the management operations of the company in the business world; leading and guiding it while protecting its assets, its future, and ensuring it generates profits. "Stewardship" is the English equivalent.

Va más gestión, porque no son temas de alta gerencia, ver más abajo.
En Argentina también puedes usar "management" con toda tranquilidad.
