Spanish term or phrase: Internet/la Internet

Me piden que la traducción de un texto sea lo más neutra posible tanto para España como para Latinoamérica (como si en todos los países se hablara igual...), pero bueno, me asaltan un par de dudas con respecto a estos términos:

¿Es más frecuente decir "Internet" o "la Internet"? (por ejemplo, "acceso a través de (la) Internet").

Lo mismo me ocurre con multimedia/multimedios, ¿qué os suena mejor?

Para España...

Explanation:
Para España lo más frecuente es decir "acceso a través de Internet".

Por otra parte es más común "multimedia".

En particular uso Internet, pero por las listas en que participo sé que en otros países latinoamericanos, y también en otros ámbitos en la Argentina, se usa también "la Internet". Me atrevería a decir, sin embargo, que el uso mayoritario es sin artículo. En cuanto a multimedia/multimedios, lamentablemente la versión más extendida, por lo menos en textos técnicos, es multimedia.

Todavía no se ha llegado a un concenso
acerca de qué término debe usarse, no importa si en las Americas hispanohablantes o en Europa (España).

En mi opinión no existe un español estándar. Entonces yo utilizaría el término de cuya exactidud estubiera seguro.
