Abstract
The purpose of this study was evaluate the Ricketts E plane; in adults, with skeletal class I, without
orthodontic treatment, rhinoplasty or orthognathic surgery; in one sample of persons of the El Bosque
University. The study consisted of 51 subject with ages ranging from 18 to 35 years. (21 males and 30
females,) students of the University; and patients of the postgraduate program of orthodontis for the
Dentistry School. All subject was taken lateral radiographics. Taken 18 measurement (5 angular and 13
linear). After of the evaluation of the Ricketts E plane, the initial group was divide in two groups; the first
group consisted of 19 subject what corresponding to the group what found inside of the values with
respect to this plane; and the second group what consisted of 32 subject what corresponding to the group
what found outside of the values for this plane. In the Descriptive statistics(means, standard deviations,
minimum, maximum) for the samples were calculated from the observed value of each measurement.
Significant differences were detected for the following variables: Nasal height, nasofacial inclination, upper
lip/E line, lower lip/E line. The majority of the sample was found retroquelic 54.9% with upper lip distance
to E plane –5.92 mm and lower lip distance to E plane –3.85mm.

El propósito de este estudio fue evaluar el plano estético de Ricketts;
en adultos, clase I esquelética, sin tratamiento previo de ortodoncia,
cirugía ortognática o rinoplastia; en una muestra de personas de
la Universidad el Bosque. Se estudió un grupo de 51 sujetos con
edades entre los 18 y 35 años de edad (21 hombres y 30 mujeres),
estudiantes de la Universidad; y pacientes del post-grado de ortodoncia
de la Facultad de Odontología. A todos los sujetos se les
tomó radiografía lateral de cráneo; de las cuales se obtuvieron 18
medidas (5 angulares y 13 lineales). Luego de evaluar el plano
estético de Ricketts, el grupo inicial se dividió en dos; el primero
que constó de 19 sujetos que corresponden al grupo que se encuentran
dentro de la norma con respecto a este plano; y el segundo que
constó de 32 sujetos que corresponden al grupo que se encuentra
por fuera de la norma de este plano. A las variables tomadas se les
calculó promedio, mínimo, máximo y desviación estándar. Las variables
que presentaron diferencias significativas fueron: Altura
Nasal, Inclinación nasofacial, Línea E/labio superior, línea E/labio
inferior. La mayoría de la población de estudio es Retroquelica,
54.9% con una distancia del labio superior al plano E de –5.92mm
y del labio inferior al plano E de –3.85mm.
