head of... Explanation: It depends to what "temple" refers to. I see a headboard in a bed. You could use "at the head of the temple" or "at the top of the temple". I am not sure what pilastras since I cant find it in any of my dictionaries. I will assume they are some kind of piers. I would translate it as follows... The thick piers at the head of the temple were substituted by thins ones. Good Luck and I hope this helps! |

This could either be a transept (cruciform church) or the Explanation: altar end of a nave (basilica). "Cabecera" in churches is the part assigned to the high altar. Before the change of liturgy (with the priest facing the congregation) this was the part where the altar was flushed to the wall, generally below the rosace and housing the tabernacle. During the Middle Ages, the entire transept was devoted to the high altar, so it can't really be excluded. Mar�a Moliner |
