Spanish term or phrase: en ley
From a book review about kings and battles, etc. :
"...las obligaciones de los súbditos para con el monarca, incluidos aquellos pueblos comandados por reyes que han sido vencidos en ley."
What does "en ley" mean, please? I can handle the rest.
Thanks to all

You were first with what seems to be a good answer. I have a teensy bit of hesitation, because I
don't understand how conquering someone can be "legal," but that's my ignorance, I suppose.
Thank you all very much for taking the time.

genuinely

Explanation:
I think the intention of the writer is to mean "en buena ley" that is "authentically" or I like better "genuinely".

Hope it helped!

LEX LOCI, LEX REI SITAE, LEX LOCI CONTRACTUS

Explanation:
, incluidos aquellos pueblos comandados por reyes que han sido vencidos en ley."
Got to be Spain! You probably know this fact but I will explain so you know where I'm coming from. In the old times each town was defended and ruled by a castle and a king. This king was selected by the eminent people of the town and also the aristocracy. Each town had diferent rules and laws and they where all independent from the others. With this in mind I hope that my translation is relevant and make sense to you.
Good luck ;-) I hope this helps!
" LEy del Lugar"> LEX LOCI, Law of the place.
" Ley del lugar de la cosa" > LEX REI SITAE, also> law of the place.
" Ley del lugar del contrato" > LEX LOCI CONTRACTUS, Law of the place where the contract was made.
