Spanish term or phrase: HOMBRETÓN
The maintenance guys/blokes/lads for an office. I couldn't find a ref. in my dictionary (no disparaging remarks about that, please!) and I'm not quite sure what the suffix means. Is it like ón? Any ideas?

big man, huge man

Explanation:
Yes, as you suspect, "hombretón" is like any "ón", an aumentative. It seems suitable to call a maintenance guy(particularly if he moves furniture around) "hombretón".

hombreton=well-built fellow

Explanation:
according to Gran Dicc. Larousse.
I think you can also use something like "burly guy".

Happy translating! ;o)

big man

Explanation:
As you suspected, it is the augmentative of "hombre". See the Real Academia virtual dictionary below. Good luck!

Bouncer

Explanation:
I think you are talking about bouncers who are generally well built and serve to protect the office or an important person.

Strong handyman

Explanation:
If the context is telling you that this hombreton is needed for maintenance work then this is the answer. However, it sounds a bit funny in Spanish to ask for a hombreton, the usual thing would be hombre fuerte, de buena planta, etc. ALternatively it may mean adolescent that has become a man, as in the context: "you are a big man now/you are a big guy now" "ya eres un hombreton"
Ans yes "on" is increment here of hombre, and the t is used to einforce the link.

Best wishes

A bear of a man

Explanation:
I have just made a translation assignment where I found the English expression "a bear of a man", it's Spanish equivalent is hombretón, so I guess it works the same the other way around. Hope this helps.
Good luck!

burly guy

Explanation:
This is a common colloquialism. Not a bouncer, though possibly built like one, ie, stocky, well-built, almost "buff." The context is usually someone who can heft, press, lift, twist, generally, manhandle something to wherever or however it posed to go!
