This term occurs in an affidavit claiming payment of overdue accounts. I think this usually refers to bills of exchange, but the context suggests that it might be more than that:

"Que como consecuencia de las entregas de género o ventas efectuadas, y para realizar su pago, se libraron por Xxxxxx S.A. diversas cambiales con importes y vencimientos diferentes, ..."

This is from Spain, if that is any help. Can "cambiales" mean something more general, or is it specifically only "Bills of Exchange"?
