Cuando menos para USA, contrasta con "empleado operativo" u "operario" (Hourly employee), tienen un régimen deferente por ley.

No tiene absolutamente nada que ver que esté o no sindicalizado en el caso del "operario".

Asker: No me parece tan adecuada la traducción pues, como dice Henry Hinds, un empleado del área operativa puede ser no sindicalizado (non-union employee) y no ser empleado de comfianza.
