Voussoir Explanation: Trasdós proviene del latín extra, fuera, al exterior y dorsum, dorso. El Trasdós es un término arquitectónico que designa el plano superior externo convexo de un arco o bóveda. A veces se denomina extradós. También designa el lomo de una dovela, que suele estar oculta por estar dentro de la construcción. Se contrapone con la voz intradós. http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trasdós A voussoir is a wedge-shaped element, typically a stone, used in building an arch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extrados -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2010-02-22 03:13:55 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Yes, translation gives it like a synonym in the meaning of stone and part that form a rounded portion of an arch. But the meaning of trasdós or extradós is the outer boundaries of a voussoir (dovela). If a client means in general a brick or a stone of the structure of an arch and don’t want to use suggested term it can be replaced by segment, also element or unit. I add you a page in internet where you can see a sketch of an arch with an explanation. http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dovela |

extrados Explanation: In architecture, the 'extrados' is the outer curved face of an arch or vault (Penguin Dictionary of Architecture). My French architectural references give its use in French to be the same (for instance Forbes Dictionary of Architecture & Construction). A voussoir is a wedge-shaped stone forming one of the units of an arch and is therefore a different part of the arch from the extrados. |
