Spanish to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Construction / Civil Engineering
Spanish term or phrase:axil
I'm translating a paper about cable-stayed bridges and the word AXIL is used as a noun throughout the text. I initially thought it was a synonym of axis, but now I'm doubting myself. The only dictionary definitions of AXIL are to do with botany (the upper angle between a leaf stalk or branch and the stem or trunk from which it is growing), which I suppose could be applied to bridge design.
Could anyone lend a hand? Thanks!
Some examples in the text are:
las cargas exteriores pasan de incrementar el axil a disminuirlo y viceversa
las fuerzas exteriores invierten su relación con el axil del tablero
