It really just means something like Peter's "open-ended" suggestion, perhaps with a bit of Phoenix's notions thrown in. More process than product oriented, if you like. I'm off to bash it into shape now, so thanks again everyone for helping out!

I now realise that the problem isn't my ignorance, just that the text isn't very well written on the whole (at one point they talk about "actividades que seducen al alumnado", which I found vaguely amusing) so I've decided to take Peter's advice and eliminate it from the translated version.

is a secondary school teacher and every year he has to present the 'programación' for the school year, which I do for him, because he claims that I specialise in 'letras'! I also chose 'Didáctica General' as an optional subject when I was studying at a Spanish university and among other things I had to prepare the 'programación' for a school subject. It's like a lot of things in Spain: lots of theory and paperwork yet the results aren't always the ones you expect.

I have just shown the passage to my wife, who is "maestra" and has also worked on curriculum design. She says it is meaningless .... I would say that the whole section from "se enuncia" to "sentido" could be omitted with no loss to meaning, whatsoever!

I think you're right. If they'd used "con carácter enunciativo" in the first place I'd have had no problem with the sentence...

Every time the authors use the word "carácter", it describes an equally woolly notion, or one difficult to express meaningfully (for me). Perhaps I should just cancel the query and make it up as I go along...

they are just examples, rather than a comprehensive list, like "con carácter enunciativo".

I suspect it may just be one of those waffly things that "sounds good" to people in the education area, as I'm struggling to discern any real meaning to it. At least the knowledge that someone other than myself is puzzled by it has reassured me, so thanks for the comment ;)

Judging from the following part of the setence it seems like something along the lines of "open-ended", as if expresivo were 'descriptive" almost as opposed to "prescriptive." But who knows?
