during reverse operation Explanation: 'eje inverso' refers to a situation in which one of the machine's fields is rotating in the opposite direction to normal (as can happen very briefly if the machine shaft is abruptly stopped from turning, e.g. by debris in a water-turbine or a mechanical overload), causing the apparent field frequency to be twice its usual value and hence giving a different value of the reactance. The terms in the source text are explained here (in Spanish): http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=NJ0_qDplgykC&pg=PA23&lpg=... and confirmed for the English terms in "Specification and design of dynamo-electric machinery", by Miles Walker, published by Longmans in ... (wait for it!) ... 1915. Moral of the story: never throw away classic works of reference! |
