Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Energy / Power Generation / Nuclear power plant request for tender
Spanish term or phrase: UT
This is a list of jobs to be done to service the plant during shutdown. The guidelines do, obviously, throw in both English and Spanish terms. I am assuming that ID is "internal diameter", and I had found UT as "unit of time", but this doesn't seem to fit. The exact phrase is:

“instalación de máquina por UT (ID) en stub tubes”

Thank you in advance for your help.

That is, a procedure for testing pipe weld defects (but not necessarily pipes ONLY) using ultrasonic waves.

U.S. utilities established the Performance Demonstration Initiative (PDI) to qualify people, procedures and
equipment for performing ultrasonic nondestructive evaluations (NDE) for major reactor cooling system
components. While PDI was initially developed in response to U.S. needs, it is increasingly being adopted in
countries in Europe and Asia to fully or partially satisfy their own performance demonstration requirements.

UNESA (Asociacion Española de la Industria Electrica)
in Madrid. “For example, we used a number of EPRI PDI
procedures, including UT-1, UT-2, UT-3, to qualify our
piping inspection procedures. We also used PDI UT-10
to qualify our procedures with respect to dissimilar metal
welds.”

Last two from EPRI - Nuclear executive update, November 2009.

Therefore, this (in my view) defines PDI UT-10:

<it>"We also used PDI UT-10
to qualify our procedures with respect to dissimilar metal
welds.”
</it>

and if so, UT here means ultrasonic Testing.

After receiving your response I stumbled across a glossary of acronyms for nuclear power plants, and it says that UT means, indeed Ultrasonic Testing.
