Spanish to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Energy / Power Generation / solar
What is HW? Many thanks.
I understand "hardware" as "not controlled by a computer". Even in simple things like your inkjet printer, there is a limit switch (in addition to an optical index sensor) that will prevent the print head from ramming into the the track end if the computer goes crazy for any reason. It simply disconnects power to the servo drving the head.
These measures (including the master switch) reflect the designers's mistrust in the computers. Being a computer man myself, I sympathise with them, to tell you the truth.
"Hardware" was my first thought... as is often the case, there seems to be a mix of Eng and Span acronyms in the doc, so this could well be English. (I'm about to post queries for a list of acronyms!) But hardware... meaning, computers? or the equipment out there on the ground? The first quote in my question is under a heading "Finales de carrera" and FC is used in the doc for that. So HW is something else... thanks.
since there is no "W" in Spanish, this abbreviation, together with the description of its action makes me think of a limit switch that prevents the machine from reaching the end of the track. Same for the master stop button. They just cut the power.

When a failure is detected, several ways to stop the action should be provided, e.g. hardware stop button and software reset command.

Explanation: Hard-wired - entirely electrical, without any electronics (and software) involved (that can fail, lock, crash, etc). Normally by a Normally Closed contact that opens when the Stop button is pressed, removing power from essential control circuits.
