butt joint

Explanation:
I think they mean "junto a tope" in other words to "butt joint" - Routledge translation of butt joint - (welding) junta a tope f, junta plana f., however I would see if anyone comes up with more detail.

Es que encontro "paño" en el diccionario Routledge y la traducción para la construcción y producción es: "flush" que quiere decir según el diccionario Cambridge:
flush (LEVEL) adjective
at the same level as another surface: http://asuwlink.uwyo.edu/~metal/migtech.html
I want the light fittings to be flush with the ceiling.

y en términos de soldadura creo que se dicen "a tope" - "butt" y una "junta a tope" sería "butt joint". Sin embargo en este caso creo que "butting" maybe the best way to translate this.

A true butt joint in thin material is difficult to make. A -perfect- butting is hard to do on formed sheet metal, and any gaps will tend to enlarge in the welding process. For this reason a lapped weld is often preferred. A panel can be flanged to let the two pieces overlap but keep the final surface flush. The flange provides a backup as well in case of erosion of the edge on the top piece.

overlapping joint

Explanation:
If it is thin plate, it is most likely an overlapped brazed joint.

Most of the refs with´pañeado´ have to do with layering of cloth.
Overlapping as in layering of cloth (paño).
