Fine grained quartz rock of marine origin.
May contain radiolarians, carbonaceous material, organic components, alumino-silicates, etc.

Note added at 22 mins (2008-11-26 10:07:45 GMT)

Abstract In the Triassic siliceous formation of Sikhote Alin, carbonaceous silicites occur in the late Olenekian-middle Anisian member (4–20 m) of alternating cherts and clayey cherts (“phtanite member”) near the section base. The silicites are represented by radiolarian and spicule-radiolarian cherts alternating with clayey cherts. They contain up to 8.5% Corg. In the majority of sections, the rocks underwent structural and mineral transformation at the mesocatagenetic stage

Siliciclastics are silicate-rich, clastic sedimentary rocks.

I had never heard of silicite as a rock type (neither had my geologist colleagues here in the office). We see that it does exist in the literature on the net, but NOT in our excellent and recent dictionary (1997).

SILICITE is however, a junior synonym for the mineral LABRADORITE. This could lead to confusion.

We only got 3020 hits for silicite the mineral, 1610 for silicites the rock BUT 111,000 for siliciclastic.

Our suggestion is that the term is not used in modern geology due to nomenclature problems and has been replaced by siliciclastic.
