study zone

seems more likely it's referring to an area of investigation within a reserve

Well. I read the whole translation as "From the year XXXX to XXXX the grassy area almost tripled in the study area of the Banana Reserve"

Note added at 2 hrs (2008-11-12 03:20:40 GMT)

I meant study zone - not area and it would be grassy areas

neutral  Gilberto Diaz Castro: Although the banana and the plantain are of a similar family they are not the same, or taste alike. “Reservas plátano” will only translate to “Plantain Reserves”, if it is the name of a place it would not be translated.
