Explanation:
'se presentó en el expediente' is presumably the process of acknowleding one's involvement and intention to participate in a case in writing - the act known as 'hacerse parte' in the Chilean legal system. We could no doubt verify that if we knew the country of origin of the source text.

So, the 'empresa' (which is apparently the 'demandado') formally became a party to the process but later presented no defence.
