Unique Population Registration Key Number Explanation: Why not translate it more or less literally? At least then you retain the precise sense and local connotations of the expression. In Australia there is the "tax file number" which is by definition unique because precautions are taken to ensure that you cannot get more than one of them. In the UK there is the National Insurance Number -- similarly intended to be, and therefore implicitly, unique. But both "tax file number" and "national insurance number" have connotations of their own that you might not wish to transfer to the Mexican case. Even the UK and Australian cases are by no means equivalent in their administrative and practical consequences. From the following definition it is clear that the purpose of the CURP is not confined to either tax administration or to social security but is something more inclusive:- CURP -- Clave Unica de Registro de Población. How you put these words together is a matter of euphony and style whichever way you say it, it's going to be a bit of a mouthful. |
