Spanish term or phrase: "Huyeron on rumbo desconocido"
"los s41et6s huyeron con rumbo desconocido."
dss
English translation:they fled to parts unknown or they fled and their whereabouts are unknown
Explanation:
This is a stock phrase found in newspaper accounts of crimes and in police reports. Fleeing "to parts unknown" is a stock phrase but is archaic. "Vanished without a trace" is probably too strong.
Try for something that fits the context but don't necessarily be literal. Good luck.

the subjects fled by an unknown route

Explanation:
It looks like "los sujetos huyeron con un rumbo desconocido." If so, the translation is above.

I go along with...

Explanation:
Berryman... depends very much on the register, the article, the context; are they criminals, or lovers, for example?
Basically - to escape/flee/get away/ etc to an unknown destination... Another possibility could be rearranging the sentence - they escaped, but their destination was unknown/ They fled, but noone knew to where ETC ETC Just some ideas.

They fled to parts unknown

Explanation:
Seconding pberryman's translation. I don't, however, think the expression is archiac.
