Precedents Explanation: How about translating it as "precedents?" That's how I usually translate it. I checked Diccionario de Términos Jurídicos (Enrique Alcaraz Varó/Brian Hughes) to confirm. Cheers. |

I would go with Legal Arguments Explanation: When a judge (in a civil law setting) passes judgement, he/she is obligated to make note of the legal provisions applied to the case in fact and the legal arguments to support such applicability. At least that's what they tought me at law school in Mexico. Best of luck! |

legal ground for the decision Explanation: It is the moment in a process of Law that the lawyers present their legal assets, which will eventually influence the judge's final decision. Please see Eurodicautom below for any possible doubt you might have. Regards. IC-P. Reference: http://eurodic.ip.lu/cgi-bin/edicbin/expert.pl |

legal grounds Explanation: According to Tom West's Spanish-English Dictionary of Law and Business, "fundamentos de derecho = legal grounds." I'm no lawyer, but this seems to be a broader term which may include precedents (precedentes) among other legal arguments. |
