Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical: Instruments
Spanish term or phrase: sufridera
This is part of an extractor used if there is a need to remove the head + insert that may have been used in a previous hip replacement operation. From the picture of the extractor, it seems to be a solid cylindrical shaft with, at one end, two prongs and, at the other, the solid circular plate (sufridera) which is approx. double the diameter of the shaft.

I can only come up with "end plate" or similar, as the previous definitions given on here for this word (die assembly, dolly, etc.) don't seem right to me, although I may be wrong on this.

If anyone can provide the correct translation for this part of this surgical instrument, I'd be very grateful. Answer really needed in the next 4 hours or so. Many thanks.

"Si fuera necesario ... se puede emplear el Extractor de Cabezas Cefálicas para retirar el conjunto “cabeza-inserto”. Se introduce la horquilla del extractor por el cuello del vástago, justo debajo de la cara plana del inserto del polietileno. Seguidamente se impacta con un martillo en la sufridera del extractor hasta que el inserto y la cabeza se separen del cono del vástago."

Thanks for your answer, but this cannot be correct, I'm afraid, as it does not drop open. It is firmly fixed to the shaft of the extractor
