There are basically two steps in clinical assays in which you
Explanation:
could be subject to "rastreo": pre-selection screening and pre-assay analyses (checkup when you've passed the screening). The first usually consists of an interview to determine whether you fit the inclusion/exclusion criteria, whereas the second may include blood tests to determine traces of illness/other medication in your bloodstream. Hope this helps, its not a standard phrase I've come across in Spanish clinical assays. Could be specific to the medication being tested.

"Screening visit" is the term I have chosen. The word just wouldn't come to my feeble brain.
Parrot was first, hence the Kudoz, but Capitán hit it right on the button, too. Thanks, Marianela.
I can't use "follow-up" because the sentence refers to the very first visit, during which information is
taken & blood chemistry performed, etc., to see if the person qualifies for the study. If I had explained that, I'm sure that
more of you would have said "screening." Anyway...great group! Thank you all very much.

the investigator "will ask you to come to his office...

Explanation:
...for a follow-up visit..." (or "examination").

This is one of the standard phrases in informed-consent forms for participation in clinical studies. These forms typically lay out all of the steps and procedures that will be performed in the study, so that the prospective study subject can give his/her informed consent, and the follow-up visit or exam is a routine step.

Follow-up visit

Explanation:
Follow up visit is the must accurate term and the one that best describes that type of visit, whether it concerns a clinical study concerning a new medication or any second visit to a doctor by a patient after the patient has received the initial treatment.
