Spanish term or phrase: agrupa monofileticamente con la secuencia de los casos
Hi Proz,
Well here we go! The sentence goes like this:
Juan es portador del virus de la hepatitis C 1a con una secuencia nucleotidos que agrupa monofileticamente con la secuencia de los casos.
What a mouthful!! Any help with this sentence would be much appreciated!
Jenette

...carrier of the Hepatitis C1a virus having a nucleotide
Explanation:
sequence belonging to the same evolutionary line as the (typical) sequence of such cases.
"Monofilético" (the mouthful) refers to a one-line taxonomy (i.e., direct evolution w/o the family branches which are referred to in biology as "phylums").

monophyletically groups together with the sequence of the cases

Explanation:
Unless you yourself are an expert PhD, I wouldn't dare try to interpret his eminence in this one. From past experiences interpreting the medical profession, I've come to understand that if you just translate what they say into good plain English or Spanish, it usually means the same. So I myself would say "...Juan is a carrier of the C 1a hepatitis virus with a nucleotides sequence that monophyletically groups together with the sequence of the cases..." and let the recipient figure out what his colleague meant.
GOOD LUCK!!!!
