Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general)
Spanish term or phrase: control analitico
Exploracion neurologica
No controla tronco.

In other contexts, I would take "control analitico" as being lab test, but I'm confused as to how it is being used here in relation to the limbs. Indeed, my first understanding was control does refer to "command of" and not "tests", but then can you have "analytic control of your legs"?

Asker: I know control analitico CAN mean lab monitoring, but not a single one of those references is in a context relating to limbs. Note the question "control analitico EN extremidades inferiores".

laboratory tests/testing

See this too please:

I have just read more of the context, must have been asleep ealier.

So, this is about a neurological examination then

Are they performing a scan/ultrasound?? or what here?

Note added at 2 hrs (2008-02-21 13:50:09 GMT)

As I see it is about "control motor"....so it must be referring to motor movements?

Note added at 2 hrs (2008-02-21 13:52:00 GMT)

On this site it means "lab tests/testing" if I am not mistaken:

Note added at 2 hrs (2008-02-21 13:58:02 GMT)

Well, I have had a good look and I cannot see what else it could refer to:

Note added at 2 hrs (2008-02-21 13:58:54 GMT)

The only other thing is that "analitico" is a typo ...

Note added at 2 hrs (2008-02-21 14:02:43 GMT)

it could just be "....with control of the lower limbs"..no control of the trunk

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=control en extremidades no ...

Note added at 2 hrs (2008-02-21 14:20:39 GMT)

The latter just wouldn't make sense, as how can one have any "control" of the lower limbs with tetraparesis??

tet·ra·pa·re·sis (ttr-p-rss, -pr-ss)
Weakness of all four limbs. Also called quadriparesis.

Note added at 2 hrs (2008-02-21 14:30:18 GMT)

And this:

eurological testing
The neurology of both upper and lower limbs should be tested. Lesions in the lower
limbs are likely to be upper motor neurone; those in the upper limb are likely to be
lower motor neurone.
For testing motor power in the upper limb, it is probably only necessary to test grip
and the power to spread the fingers apart. Grip tests power of the finger flexors as
well as the wrist extensors so covering most of the middle cervical nerve roots.
Abduction of the fingers is supplied by the lower cervical roots including T1, so
testing these two manoeuvres covers most of the motor roots from the cervical spine
apart from the uppermost ones.
If abnormal can test tone, power, co-ord. and reflexes formally.
Look at gait - a broad-based gait is seen with myelopathy of the neck = ischaemia of
the cord with increased clumsiness.
Look for pulses, sensation, hyperalgesia, pins and needles, heaviness.

That's as far as I can go with this one.

Note added at 2 hrs (2008-02-21 14:31:27 GMT)

I still think they are talking about tests...FWIW.

Note added at 2 hrs (2008-02-21 14:36:31 GMT)

I am so sorry to mess you about on this one, it is NOT easy!! just because the Spanish doesn't make sense.

So I am going to stick my neck out:

It IS about "control" but in this instance there can't be much at all as there is tetraparesia.

It could even be "control parálitico"...though a Spanish speaker would have to confirm"

No presenta control cefálico.

Note added at 3 hrs (2008-02-21 14:48:36 GMT)

It could also =

analytical assessment,

"control motor" = examination of the sensorimotor system, nothing to do with "control/command"

Notes to answerer
Asker: Another reason against the "control/assessment" meaning, is that of all the other bullets in this list (10+) none of them refer to procedures, all of them are descriptive of the patient's signs.

electrodiagnostic testing

Looks like they are referring to electrodiagnostic testing here (EMG or NCV). They could be referring to computerized range of motion testing, but not likely.
