Meso-America refers to a cultural, rather than a geological/physical geography entity. This is how the New Shorter Oxford defines it:
the region of America from central Mexico to Nicaragua, or any of several advanced pre-Columbian cultures which flourished there; loosely Central America.
The prefered spelling in English is Meso-America (hyphenated), according to the Oxford, although the unhyphenated version is also acceptable.
