English translation:see below
Explanation:
Compadre (lit. co-parent) means the godfather of your child if you are a parent, or the fellow godparent of the godmother (comadre in Spanish). It is also used as a respectful term of address to someone who is not really the godfather of your child, but whom you would wish to be. Hope this helps.

Good Friend

Explanation:
Compadre is a term used in many ways, it is mainly used to discribe the relationship between you and another male person (ie Best Friend). If it was a female, it would be comadre. Now, there are different ways to be a compadre, the main one is based on a sponsorship in a religious event. ie. The relationship between you and the male baptizing your child. To the child, this male is his godfather, to you, he is your compadre.

There is also the beyond friendship type of compadre, ie best friend, where there has been no sponsorship what so ever yet there is mutal respect between two persons. As respect and reliability to each other, they call each other as compadre/comadre.

Example sentence(s):
  • Mi compadre Juan, bautiso mi hiho - Mi best friend Juan, was my childs sponsor for his baptism
